Show President, Gary Trimbee-Laine says the Show Committee have been working hard since the disappointing losses of last year’s show were announced at their AGM at the end of December.
One key initiative we have been working on is the creation of an appeal to raise funds to secure the 2016 show. Due to the kind support of a local flower growing enthusiast, Mark Chipperfield, today we are launching the “ Save it with flowers” appeal. We are offering lovely locally grown chrysanthemums for sale from the 29th of January at the outlets listed below, with all profits going to the appeal.
The bunches of appeal chrysanthemums go on sale from Tuesday, priced at £4 at Alliance Cash & Carry, Forest Stores, Saumarez Park Tearooms and Co-Op and are anticipated to be available for about three weeks (or until stocks run out).
Show Treasurer, Mark Salmon, hopes sufficient funds can be raised to ensure the much enjoyed Battle of Flowers can continue as one of the central attractions of the Show. “ The Committee are fairly confident that a Show will be held this August, but for this year only, we may need to trim back the Battle of Flowers in order to come within budget as the Show cannot afford to make a loss again. The extent to which the Battle is reduced will depend on the financial support we get from the public and sponsors over the coming few months. The “Save it with Flowers” is the ideal way for us to get fund raising off to a good start and raise our profile.
In addition to the flowers sales the Show Committee have launched a ‘just giving’ web page for anyone who feels they can make a donation and the Committee are planning a couple of fund raising evenings in the Spring, details to follow.
Distributed Monday 25th January.
